The 6,733 residents of Essex enjoy a good standard of living with an average household income of $91,618. If you are looking to buy a property here, the average house price is far more reasonable than the other towns on this list at $445,200. If you would rather rent, then the average monthly price is $1,033.
Essex is famous for its historic architecture, picturesque harbor, and rich maritime heritage. The town’s Main Street features many well-preserved 18th and 19th-century buildings, including the Griswold Inn, which has been serving travelers and locals since 1776. At number 14 on my list of the richest Connecticut towns is Stamford, situated in Fairfield County. With a population of 135,470, it’s more of a city, really. It’s actually the third-largest city in the state. The average household income here is just under six figures at $99,791, and the average house price is $550,600.
Stamford is a dynamic and diverse city with a strong economy, cultural amenities, and plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. Its location on the coast, proximity to New York City, and diverse population make it a great place to live or visit for those looking for a mix of urban and suburban lifestyles.

Avon is a suburban town located in Hartford County with a population of around 18,000 people. The Average household income here is a healthy $130,268, whilst the residents also enjoy the lowest house prices of any town on this list at an average price of $383,800. These folk are getting the best of both worlds.
Avon is a community-oriented town with many regular events and festivals held throughout the year. One of the most popular is the Avon Farmers Market, which features local food and craft vendors, live music, and children’s activities. Moving up the rankings, we have Ridgefield, another town located in Fairfield County. It’s a bigger place than a lot of the other towns on my list, with a population of just over 25,000.

Nearly making it into the Top 10 is the town of Easton in Fairfield County. 7,605 residents call this town home, and they’re not doing badly for themselves. The median household income here is $165,469, and you’ll need to be earning in that range to live in Easton, as the average house price is $642,400.
The town is known for its natural beauty, with large tracts of open space and forests. Easton has a rich history dating back to the 1700s when it was originally settled by farmers. Today, Easton is a residential town with a strong sense of community spirit. It is a great place to live for those who are looking for a quieter, more rural lifestyle while still having access to the amenities of nearby urban areas.

The small hamlet was established way back in 1639 and is so full of New England history, that in 1967, it was made a historic district.
Only 1,797 people live in this small Connecticut town where the average household income is an impressive $180,057. With an average house price of $766,900, it’s actually one of the more affordable towns on my list.
With its rich history, beautiful architecture, and scenic harbor, it’s no wonder this town attracts some of the wealthier residents of the Nutmeg State. Add to that a thriving arts scene capped by the popular Southport Arts Festival, and you have yourself a very desirable place to live.

8 Greenwich, CT
Number eight on my list is the affluent town of Greenwich. The average household income here is $180,447, and you’ll need every cent of that to afford housing here, as the average house will set you back $1,377,000.
Greenwich is one of the larger towns on this list, with a population of 63,496, and as a result, there’s plenty to do and see. There are plenty of beautiful parks for outdoor recreation, along with a host of cultural institutions and well-preserved historic landmarks.
Community events, such as the Greenwich Town party, create a strong bond between the town’s residents that you don’t always get in such affluent areas.
7 Weston, CT
Yet another rich town situated in Fairfield County, the 10,347 residents of Weston have an average household income of $204,792. With this in mind, they can easily afford the average house price of $839,900.
Like many of the other towns on this list, Weston has a rich cultural history that has been well preserved. The Coley Homestead, a historic farmhouse dating back to the 1700s, and the Morehouse Barn, a restored 19th-century barn that now serves as a community center, are just a few of the town’s historic sites.
The town is also known for its peaceful atmosphere and picturesque surroundings, with rolling hills, lush forests, and sparkling lakes providing a stunning natural backdrop.

We’re in Fairfield County once again. The lovely town of Wilton takes the number six spot on my list. 18,503 people are residents here, with an average household income of $209,635. Once again, the house prices here aren’t crazy, considering the level of wealth. The average home here will set you back $768,400.
The town’s proximity to the coast and easy access to major metropolitan areas like New York City make it an ideal location for those seeking a quiet, family-friendly lifestyle with easy access to urban amenities.
Community spirit is strong here, with residents enjoying a number of yearly events, including the Wilton Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale and the Wilton Food Truck Festival. 5 New Canaan, CT
The 20,622 citizens of New Canaan in Fairfield County enjoy an average household income that is almost three times the national average, at $214,977. This standard of living comes at a cost, though. The average house price in this exclusive town is an eye-watering $1,264,400.
Downtown plays host to many high-end shops, restaurants and galleries, and a bunch of historic landmarks, including the New Canaan Train Station and the New Canaan Library. It’s picturesque New England charm all the way in this exclusive Connecticut postcode.

4 Old Greenwich, CT
If you want to live in this prestigious Connecticut town, you will have to have some serious money. The average house price in this town of 6,962 people is $1,444,800! Fortunately for them, the average resident is very well off, with an average household income of $234,152.
One of the main attractions of Old Greenwich is its access to the Long Island Sound. The village has several beaches, including the popular Greenwich Point Park. The park is also home to a nature center and picnic areas, making it a popular spot for family outings.
Downtown has a quaint and charming small town feel to it, making it a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.
3 Westport, CT
Just pipping Old Greenwich to the third spot is Westport, yet another town in Fairfield County. I’m noticing a pattern here. The average household income of the 27,141 residents is an outstanding $236,892, and the average house price is also upper level at $1,126,300.
Westport is situated amongst beautiful natural surroundings. The town was built along the Long Island Sound and features several great beaches, including Compo Beach. Arts and culture lovers are also well catered for, with the Westport Country Playhouse a popular destination for theater-goers, while the Westport Arts Center features rotating exhibitions and educational programs for all ages.
Excellent schools and a relaxed coastal lifestyle not far from New York City are other factors that have attracted such wealthy residents.
2 Riverside, CT
Number 2 on my list of the wealthiest towns in Connecticut is Riverside, another small town of 8,843 residents lucky enough to live in the stunning coastal area of Long Island Sound. Average household incomes here are through the roof at $250,578, as is the average house price of $1,570,200. Only the uber-wealthy can afford to live here.
It is a delightful community that has excellent schools, a strong sense community, easy transport links for commuters, and waterfront splendor on the Cos Cob Harbor, Mianus River, and Long Island Sound. Due to its coastal location and wealth, many residents also own luxurious boats.
As you would imagine, the town is well served by a host of upscale shopping and dining options, and outstanding schools.
1 Darien, CT
Finally, we’ve arrived at the richest town in the affluent state of Connecticut. In the number 1 spot is the wealthy town of Darien. You won’t be surprised to discover that, like the majority of towns on this list, it is located in Fairfield County.
Darien is home to 21,499 people, and with an average household income of $251,200, the town must rank highly in the richest towns in the country, never mind just Connecticut. House prices are also astronomic, with an average sale price of $1,475,400.
It’s a charming town that provides its locals with a relaxed, upscale lifestyle. It boasts a picturesque downtown area filled with a smorgasbord of high-end shops and restaurants, as well as historic homes and buildings that give the town that classic New England feel.
One of the town’s biggest draws is its beautiful natural scenery. Awesome beaches and plentiful parks provide an excess of scenic recreational space for outdoor enthusiasts to wallow in. It’s not hard to see why the state’s richest residents choose this town as home.
